My Brother and I planned to start my road trip with a 4-day, 3-night backpacking trip in the Wallowa mountains in NE Oregon. Known as "The Alps of Oregon", the Wallowas are located in the Eagle Cap Wilderness area and feature lots of steep granite terrain with drastic views and very pretty Alpine lakes. Were hammock camping which was very nice until night 2 when my hammock ripped clean through the middle and I was forced to improvise a shelter to sleep on the ground in the rain. The next morning we decided to cut the trip one day short and hike the remaining 13 miles in one day. Tough, but better than sleeping on the ground again.
If I were to do this trip again, I would stop the first night at Sixmile Meadow instead of toughing it out to Frazier Lake. And I would be sure to inspect my hammock beforehand!
